successful lifting operations must be

Properly planned and carried out by industry experts.

Hill-Tec Ltd has both hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge to help ensure lifts are planned and carried out to the highest possible standard.

When planning for any lifting operation, the following must be considered:

  1. The risks involved
  2. The equipment needed
  3. The procedures that need to be followed
  4. Whether the load is balanced
  5. Who will be responsible for certain tasks.

For instance: do you know the weight of the load? Is the load balanced? Do you know the integrity of the lifting points? Can the lift be planned to avoid people working under the suspended load? Will temporary supports be needed?

If carrying out maintenance work, it may be necessary to perform one-off lifts or lifts that are only undertaken occasionally.

Lifts of this nature can often be more dangerous due to the lack of familiarity with the load, or because the need for appropriate lifting or support equipment hasn’t been properly considered during the planning process.

Providing Equipment

Our expert team is on hand to help make sure any and all lifting operations run as smoothly as possible. They will ensure that the planning process is carried out in a thorough and systematic manner, covering all safety procedures and acquiring the correct lifting and support equipment to safely and successfully complete the project.

We have our own equipment to help us carry out certain operations in a safe manner, but due to the number of projects on the go at any given time we will never assume that lifting equipment, such as forklifts or trucks, will be readily available for us to use when needed. Therefore we will take stock of what is available and make arrangements for the correct equipment to be prepared or outsourced if required.

The lifting operation may be the most dangerous aspect of the maintenance activity, so it is vital that it should be planned properly and the correct equipment used.

Providing Supervision

The process will also need to be appropriately supervised, and this must be proportionate to the risk and the experience of those involved.

For the reasons outlined above, lifting operations in maintenance settings are likely to require much greater supervision than the routine lifting of raw materials or finished products that are handled daily.
